We're always trying to find ways to sneak protein in right? Woman are supposed to have minimum of 46 grams of protein a day. It's recommended for weight loss, to have upward of half your body weight in protein (in grams)! How am I supposed to get that much protein? Especially if you're like me, and can't eat a lot or any dairy. Comparatively to a greek yogurt, is this healthier? No. But it's different, something you can eat quick on the go that will keep you feeling fuller, longer.
Protein Balls gives you about 16-19 grams of protein in each little bite depending on the powder you choose. There's 2-3 grams of sugar per Protein Ball and LOW carb at about 8-9 grams. The best part? They taste like cake pops your kids get to buy at a certain coffee shop, and they're quick to eat on the run. Customizing these will vary the sugar, carbs and protein but they will ensure they taste great to you.
Protein Balls!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 cups of protein powder (I use ghost powder. Note: using peanut butter powder, your protein balls with have about 6 grams of protein but also less fat and calories)
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce. (If you choose to go sweetened, it adds about 1 gram of sugar per ball and gives you more of a cake taste. Use discretion.)
- 1/4 cup of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chip Morsels (use dairy free, dark chocolate, butterscotch, or whatever you feel like experimenting with. This will alter the sugar content)
- 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
- Mix apple sauce with protein powder.
- Let it freeze for 15 minutes.
- Melt chocolate with coconut oil with either double broiler, fondue pot or microwave for 30 second intervals. If your chocolate seizes, add a little more oil. (this can happen if you get water in it)
- Cover the balls with chocolate.
- You should get around 8-9
- Let it freeze for another 10-15 minutes
- Enjoy!
I made two batches of Protein Balls above. One was cinnabon and one was banana pancake. The Cinnabon ones were SO delicious!
