Are you looking for something fun to do while you've been enjoying the Olympics?
Here's a few activities that will make it just a little more fun with your little ones.
Craft a Torch: 5-10 minutes
Use a old paper towel roll (You can color this if you want a different color) and some red, orange and yellow construction paper.
If you don't have construction paper, just color white paper.
Cut them into S shapes to make flames.
Tape them into the inside of the toilet paper roll.
You now have your torch to play games
Games
Most of these items you can get at the local dollar tree, or find similar items around your home. You'll need to
Supplies:
Pool noodles (1 per child)
Hula hoops (1 per child)
2 Baskets
1 Basketball
Long Jump
The first game is basic.
The Long Jump!
Who can JUMP the farthest. Mark it.
Fastest Runner
Another basic concept.
Mark the start line and the finish line.
You can do a straight line or you can do an oval like a track.
You can do 1 round or you can do 3 rounds.
Just make the rules clear.
Whoever touches finish first, wins.
Javelin (Pool Noodle) Throw
Each child/person gets a pool noodle and throws it as far as they can. The person who throws the farthest, wins.
To make this activity harder, or for a "second round", add in the hula hoops and they have to shoot them through the hula hoops.
Hulu Hoop Hop!
Using the running track, hop down the finish line while holding your hula hoops. Who can keep it up the longest?
Basket Ball Baskets
Time to hit the baskets. Choosing a number (kids ages sometimes is the best) they have to make that number of baskets with the basket balls. To make it harder, say they have to dribble the ball a few times, or get it past you or another player. You can place the baskets on opposites side of the play area making sure they each know which one is their basket.
