Come and Get Cozy!

A winter StoryWalk® is happening in downtown Florence.

By Dr. Megan Allen, NBCT December 22, 2020

Our first StoryWalk® in October featuring local author/illustrator Grace Lin was so much fun we couldn't wait to do it again. We’re now getting cozy in this beautiful, winter weather with Jan Brett's new book, Cozy. So grab your hot cocoa, pop on a mask, and bring the family!

Organized and hosted by The Community Classroom Hosted by Tailored Learning Supports (For Families), the StoryWalk will be posted from December 4th-January 4th outside 24 Florence businesses. Maps will be available electronically and outside The Community Classroom (at 29 N. Maple Street) and outside High Five Books at their new location. Families can pick up or scan a code for a map and walk to each of the businesses, reading laminated pages of the story at each stop. The StoryWalk® is available at any time, as the pages are posted in windows and doors (and at munchkin eye level!). Go at your own speed, stroll or bike.

Families will not only enjoy a charming story about fuzzy animals finding an unusual new home to survive Alaska's long winter (while learning to get along), but they will learn interesting facts about several unusual Arctic animals on this 1.5 mile walk.

As a celebration of the end of our downtown Florence (Massachusetts) StoryWalk, we are celebrating all things Arctic at a virtual talk for families: Arctic Animals: Stories and Fun Facts. And you don't need to have participated in the StoryWalk to attend. It’s open to all.

Ever wonder what it’s like to see a moose wander through your backyard, what it’s like to be face-to-face with a puffin, or what it feels like to see the majestic narwhal in person? You can find out!

Come and talk to award-winning educator and 2016 Colorado Teacher of the Year Leticia Guzman Ingram about her journey to the Arctic as a National Geographic Grosvenor Fellow. Then meet her daughter, Savanah, who is currently a dietetic intern living just south of the Arctic Circle in Alaska (and ask her about the moose who walk through her yard every day!).

Leticia and Savanah will share their first-hand experiences with Arctic Animals, including some amazing photos. Then they'll field questions from the audience. Ask an expert in this kid-friendly event.

Both Leticia and Savanah work with the Arctic Angels, a group of inspiring young women (ages 9-30) who are committed to protecting our global commons through an intergenerational action network. Donations made to this event will go to support the work of the Arctic Angels.

This virtual talk is for families and kids of all ages. We will send the Zoom link to the event one-hour before it begins. Find more information + registration at http://bit.ly/ArcticAnimalsWebinarTLS. For any questions, please reach out to Dr. Megan Allen at Tailoredlearning4fams@gmail.com.
