Find Your Family Fun With Improv

By Michelle Melnik; Macaroni Kid Amherst/Northampton February 22, 2019

Have you ever done Improv, or maybe you’ve watched other people doing Improv?  I took an Improvisational Theatre class in college, many years ago.  It was definitely one of the most fun classes I’ve had. I’ve also watched other people (adults and children) doing Improv, and I truly love it.

What do I love about Improv?  It has amazing benefits for people of all ages, from building confidence (there is no right or wrong in Improv) to gaining a better understanding of and communication with others.  In Improv, it's important to try and read the people you're working with:  their facial expressions and their body language, and find ways to work collaboratively with them.  Improv is the epitome of teamwork!

When I first learned of
Happier Valley Comedy, I was, of course, in love!  I was excited to attend their Happier Family Comedy Show.  The Family Show takes place at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art on the 3rd Saturday of every month.  The next show is on February 15th from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Doors open at 2:45, where you can find your seats and use some of the Science themed items, donated by A2Z Science and Learning Store.  In addition, at every show, there is a drawing for a $25.00 gift card to A2Z Science.Visit the event page on Facebook for more details on how to enter the giveaway.

The Happier Family Comedy Show is completely improvised.  So every show will be something new because it’s made up on the spot based on the suggestions of the audience members.  There are always questions asked of the audience, who often come up with some creative and comical answers. On occasion, young audience members will be invited on stage to improvise with members of the cast, but only if they want to.
